Kahoka, MO — A large crowd gathered for harness racing on Sunday (July 28) at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Kahoka, Mo. Spectators filled the grandstand, while tailgaters choose their spots in the infield to watch the nine-race card hosted by the Missouri Harness Horseman’s Association.

Driver Gary Liles scored a driving triple.

His first drive came in race one on 2-year-old trotter Muscles-N-Tuff. Liles went head to head with Bonneville Burt (John Saner) Both colts trotted in tandem, but Muscles-N-Tuff was too tough, crossing the wire to win in 2:12.4.

Liles’ second win was with Legal Liar, a 2-year-old Arizona Liar pacing colt, in race four. When the gate folded, Fox Valley Danica (Kevin Bender) sprinted for the lead and Legal Liar settled into the pocket. Just past the half, Liles pulled, battled to take the lead, and captured the win in 2:06.1.

In race five, Liles sat behind his 3-year-old trotter Cracker Box. Sitting second behind Smarty Tart Gonspi (James Telfer), Liles pulled his colt, gained the lead and put the field away. Cracker Box crossed the wire in 2:09.2, giving Liles his third win on the afternoon.

The feature races of the day were the Missouri Owned Trot and Pace. In the Missouri Owned Trot, 88-year-old C.L. Alber put Chipper Girl out front as the gate folded. Pressured by Bankn-On-Emily (Royal Royald), Alber used the rail to his advantage, winning for a cheering crowd in 2:06.1.

In the Missouri Owned Pace, Ruby Rose (Saner), left the gate, took the lead and didn’t look back. With a gate-to-wire win in 2:08.3, Ruby Rose made her way to the winner’s circle for owner-trainer Frank Chitwood.

Driver Jason Ludwig also pulled a driving double in consecutive races, with Wall Street Winner (2:17.2) and WX Dontworryboutit (2:06.1)
