WHAT CHEER (June 28, 2025) – Saturday (6/28) featured the season’s first division of Iowa Sired two and three year olds at What Cheer, Iowa. In the sixteen race card, Duane Roland topped the charts with five wins on the day.
The program started the day with the first division of Iowa Sired two-year-old pacing fillies. Trainer/driver Duane Roland’s Kissing Princess drew the rail. As the gate folded, Sunshine Kaboom (Corey Larson) left for the lead with Kissing Princess dropping nicely into the pocket. Cutting the mile in 32.2, 1:05.1 and 1:36.0, Sunshine Kaboom still had a length lead as they topped the lane. Pulling to challenge, Kissing Princess and Sunshine Kaboom hooked up as they raced to the wire. With a half length advantage, Kissing Princess crossed the wire to take her first life-time victory, pacing in 2:05 flat.
In race five, Roland’s second two-year-old pacing filly, Sea Do Ski Do, had post-position two. Not wanting to take any chances, Roland urged her from the gate to take the top. Leading the field around the track, Sea Do Ski Do paced the fractions in 32.1, 1:05;1, and 1:36.3. Rounding the last turn, Sea Do Ski Do was making waves as she drove to the line. Capturing her second win in a row, Sea Do Ski Do paced the mile in 2:09.0, lowing her lifetime mark.
Not looking to play games, Roland’s two-year-old Iowa Sired pacing colt, Bingowashisnameo, started in race seven from the three-hole. With a sprint to the front, Bingowashisnameo took no prisoners. Pacing the mile in 32.0, 104.3 and 1:35.3, Bingowashisnameo’s closest competitor was a long nine lengths behind him. With the race under wraps, Bingowashisnameo got the call as winner, finishing the mile in 2:04.4.
In race nine, featuring three-year-old Iowa Sired pacing fillies, See Sea Cece, had the four-hole for Roland. As Myfarmersdaugher (Rob Anderson) quickly took the lead, See Sea Cece settled into third, racing behind Graceful Boom (Brian Larson). Passing the quarter in 31.2 and the half in 103.1, Myfarmersdaugher went offstride, impeding Graceful Boom. Taking advantage of the untimely break, See Sea Cece pulled to the outside and quickly took over command of the race, passing the three-quarters in 1:34.0.. But as the horses hit the stretch, Myfarmersdaugher, back on stride, regained the lead. Although she crossed the wire in front, Myfarmersdaughter was placed third for the break , thus giving See Sea Cece the victory and Roland his fourth win on the day.
Looking for another win, Roland has the assignment on Kinky Cobra in race fourteen for three-year-old Iowa Sired trotting colts. Going off stride at the gate, Kinky Cobra quickly regained composure and was sitting fourth as they hit the quarter-pole in 31.3. Still fourth at the half, in 1:03.2, Kinky Cobra made a move toward the leader, Busterfirstgonspi (Adam Hauser). Second at the three-quarter in 1:35.3, Kinky Cobra was in full gear at the top of the lane. Trotting his last quarter in 32.1, Kinky Cobra grabbed his second win in two starts and Roland’s fifth win on the day.
