Eldon, IA — Seventeen fields of competitors took to the Eldon oval for the Wapello County Fair.  The crowd enjoyed twilight racing on Wednesday (June 12) evening and free lunch for senior citizens on Thursday (June 13).  Most of the divisional winners were crowd-pleasers, increasing the tallies in their win columns.

Twilight racing kicked off with five-year-old pacer Pretty Boy Swag sweeping the Aged Iowa-Registered Pace.  The gelding’s 2:02:4 mile was the fastest pace of the meet, continuing his perfect record since returning to Iowa for the 2019 racing season. Pretty Boy Swag is out of the Iowa sire Marced Card and is trained and driven by Duane Roland.  The 7-year-old Weight Lifter mare Awesomely Awesome also racked up another win, remaining undefeated in the Aged Iowa-Registered Trot in 2019. Trained and driven by Dan Roland and owned by his daughter Kennedy, Awesomely Awesome bested the competition in 2:05.3.

The fastest division of the Kermit Hinshaw Memorial Trot went to Lou’s Flashy Dancer, bringing her winning streak to three.  Owned, trained and driven by Steven Renard, the Lou’s Legacy filly dominated the 2-year-old trotters in 2:10, topping the other divisions by more than 6 seconds.  A second Lou’s Legacy filly from the Renard stable topped the 3-year-old trotters in 2:05.4. Loussolataire earned her second Iowa win this year after taking the same division at Humboldt last week.

Texas-bred pacer Waco Sassy Kid found the winners circle again in the 2-year-old pace.  Trained and driven by Lorenza Gooch for owner Ronald Burks, Waco Sassy Kid improved his lifetime best to 2:09.1.  Three-year-old pacer Artspire also crossed the wire first to top his division. The son of Hot Pans paced in 2:04.2 for owner/trainer/driver Duane Roland.

Piloted by Jason Ludwig, free-For-All trotter Metatron took another Iowa win in 2:05.1. The 6-year-old son of Muscle Hill is owned and trained by Duane Roland. Trainer Lorenza Gooch and owner Ronald Burks teamed up for another win in the Free-For-All Pace.  The ten-year-old Dream Away mare Helena’s Hope held off a field for fresh three-year-olds to win in 2:09.

The final division of each day was the Non-Winners of $2,500 lifetime.  The trot went to first time starter Itsonlymoneyhoney. Trained and driven by Dan Roland, the 2-year-old Banker Volo colt took advantage of breaks from some of the field favorites to cross the wire in 2:13.  Arizona Speed won the pace for the Adam Hauser Stable. The 3-year-old son of Arizona Liar won in 2:10.4 sprinting to the finish in 27.4, the fastest last quarter of the meet.

Iowa racing action continues tomorrow (June 15) with the first of three Iowa Sires Stakes meets.  Racing will be at the Keokuk County Fairgrounds at What Cheer. Post time is 12:30.
