Harness racing returned to Humboldt, Iowa for two days of 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers. Iowa registered horses competed not only for purses, but also points. Points leaders have their eye on the prize, hoping for a spot in the championship weekend, coming up in September.

Three-year-olds took over the track on Friday (Aug. 2). The fastest division of pacing colts belonged to Fred And Roz in race one. When driver Mark Mintun took over the lead at the half, it became a back and forth battle with Oh Toodles, driven by Scott Smith. As the two approached the wire, Fred And Roz paced to the win in 1:59.4.

As the gate folded in race three, the pacing filly division, Jumping Jillybean jumped to the front, proceeding to put the field away. Cutting the fractions in :30.1, 1:02.2, and 1:31.3, Jumping Jillybean won in 2:02 for driver/trainer Nick Roland.

It was all Ricky Be Sharp, winning race six, for trotting colts. With Nick Roland in the bike, Ricky Be Sharp made the move to take over the lead at the half. Spiced Honey (Robert Anderson) and Z Machine (Samuel Zimmerman) tried to catch the leader, but Ricky Be Sharp trotted home in :30.2, winning in 2:04.1 for trainer Lorenza Gooch.

Bankn-On-Emily thrilled the spectators with her win in race eight, for trotting fillies. Driver/trainer Thomas Shipley waited until the stretch, driving Bankn-On-Emily to the win by a neck over All Taylor Made (Gary Liles) in 2:03.2.

On Saturday (Aug. 3), the track at Humboldt belonged to the 2-year-olds. The 13-race card started off the day with Slippin The Clutch going wire-to-wire in race one for pacing colts. Setting the fractions in :31.4, 1:04, and 1:35, driver Will Roland guided Slippin The Clutch to his third win in a row, with a new lifetime mark in 2:04.2.

In race four, for trotting fillies, CR Valentine, driven by Robert Anderson, sat smartly in the pocket behind Passion In Paris (Adam Hauser). Pulling at the top of the stretch, CR Valentine trotted to the win in 2:08.1, another lifetime mark on the day.

It’s Pacific Time, a pacing filly, returned to the winner’s circle in race seven. Driver Chad Svendson timed the race with It’s Pacific Time, cutting the mile in :31.3, 1:03, and 1:33.4 and leading the field to the wire in 2:03.
