As Championship Weekend grows closer, Iowa two and three-year-olds look to improve their points standing over the weekend at What Cheer.

Continuing her domination of two-year-old filly trotters, Toast The Host destroyed the competition in the first race on Saturday (8/28).  Owned, trained and driven by Mark Mintun, Toast The Host charged from the five-hole to take the lead and never looked back.  Fractions in 30.1, 1:02 and 1:32.2, she had a five length lead over the field at the top of the stretch.  Motoring home in 31.3, Toast The Host picked up her eighth win on the season, trotting in 2:04 flat.

In race two, the first division of two-year-old filly pacers, Adam Hauser and Huntress were hunting for a victory from the rail.  Setting the pace, Huntress cut the mile in 29.2, 59.4 and 1:29.2.  With a three length lead turning for home, Huntress paced her last quarter in 31.4, crossing the finish line in a new lifetime mark of 2:01.1.

The fastest division on two-year-old trotting colts/geldings took place in race three.  CR Socks (Chad Svendsen) took control of the race from the gate, with Whackie Willie (Brandon Jenson) and Battle King (Gary Liles) settling in behind.  Third at the half, Battle King sprinted to the top, leading the field into the last turn.  Still with plenty of trot, Battle King crossed the line for the win, in 2:03.2, last quarter of 31.3.

Lucky To Be Sweet (Will Roland) clocked the fastest division of two-year-old pacing colts/geldings in race four.  As Point Me High (Adam Hauser) paced out for the lead, Lucky To Be Sweet settled in on the rail, second.  Tracking the leader, Lucky To Be Sweet bided his time until the stretch.  Pacing home in 31.3, Lucky To Be Sweet snagged the victory by a head, race-time in 2:03.2.

Hauser also picked up three more wins on the card for a driving quadruple.  He captured his second win in race nine, two-year-old trotter non-winners.  Driving Bounce To The Bank, Hauser cashed in with a gate to win finish and a first life-time win with the Abra-sired filly for owner Wilda McDanel.

Looking to give McDanel a second win on the card in race eleven, Hauser drove Blue Swagg Shoes in the second division of two-year-old trotter non-winners.  Trotting in 2:12.3, Blue Swagg shoes picked up his first lifetime win and Hauser’s third win of the day.

Not done yet, Hauser was given the assignment on Night King in the final race, two-year-old pacer non-winners.  Parked to the half, Night King finally gained control at the three-quarter-pole and cruised home in 2:04.4 for back-to-back wins and Hauser’s fourth winning drive.

KIcking off the second day at What Cheer, May Day Maggie (Chad Svendsen) picked up her second win in a row and sixth win on the season in the opener at What Cheer on Sunday (8/29).  While she raced in 2:02.3, the fastest division of three-year-old pacing fillies went to Marced Debutante (Cory Larson) in race five.  Wire-to-wire, Marced Debutante marked her first win of the season in 2:02.1.

In race four, I’m Another Wilson was looking for another win.  As the gate folded, I’m Another Wilson (Adam Hauser) trotted to the top in the first division for three-year-old trotting colt/geldings.  With race fractions in 30.3, 1:01.1 and 1:32.2. I’m Another Wilson held a length lead over the field.  Crossing the line in 31.3, I’m Another Wilson gained back to back wins for driver/trainer Hauser in 2:04 flat.

Race six featured the second division of three-year-old trotting fillies.  As Mnemonic (Michael Morales) lined up behind the gate, she trotted out to take the lead in 32.2.  Trotting to the half in 1:04.3, Mnemonic led the field to the three-quarters in 1:34.2.  Up by over two lengths, Mnemonic crossed the finish line in 2:05.4 for her second win in a row.

Looking to maintain his winning ways, Imoutthedoor (Chad Svendsen) drew the two-hole in race seven, the second division of three-year-old pacing colts/geldings.  In his usual fashion, Imoutthedoor quickly took the lead at the start.  Cutting the mile in 30.1, 59.4 and 1:30.3, Imoutthedoor looked to shut the door on the rest of the field.  Last quarter in 30.2, Imoutthedoor captured his fifth consecutive win, pacing in 2:01 flat.

Iowa racing resumes next weekend at What Cheer.  Post time for both Saturday (9/4) and Sunday (9/5) is 12:30pm CDT.
