What Cheer hosted the season’s first division of Iowa Sired racing on Sunday (6/25), featuring eleven races for freshmen and sophomore pacers and trotters.

In race three for Iowa sired two-year-old trotting fillies, Toots On Top (Spectator K) made a dash for the top, with owner/trainer/driver Rian Sherman in the sulky.  Toots On Top retained the lead, holding off Keystone Swagger sired Mary Sophia (Jim Reese) until the half.  As Mary Sophia took command, Toots On Top tracked her in second.  Turning for home, Toots On Top trotted for the line.  Picking up her second win, Toots On Top topped her lifetime mark, trotting in 2:14 flat.

Two Marced Card fillies, Marced Rain and Marced Fox, competed in race four for two-year-old pacing fillies.  As the gate folded, Marced Rain (Cory Larson) sped out for the lead.  Cutting the mile in 32.0, 1:03.1 and 1:35.1, Marced Rain was still on top, as Marced Fox (Duane Roland) sat patiently in the pocket.  As the two fillies paced side-by-side down the lane, Marced Fox found just enough to edge out the victory, pacing in 2:08.0 to take her first lifetime win.

Sophomore Iowa sired trotters competed in race nine, with Lukas Hall sired colts duking it out on the track.  Lucky Twenty Two (Chad Svendsen) charged out for the lead, parking Financial Swan (Royal Roland) in second.  Still parked at the half, Financial Swan gained the lead as they passed the three-quarter-pole.  Up by two lengths at the top of the stretch, Financial Swan made the money, trotting for the win in 2:04.0.

Making her first start of the season, Liar’s Last Squirt (Arizona Liar) and owner/trainer/driver Frank Chitwood started from the three-hole in race ten for Iowa sired three-year-old pacers.  As Khaki’s Gal (Sneaky B Skipalong), driven by Chad Svendsen left to take the lead, Liar’s Last Squirt settled nicely into the pocket.  Waiting until past the three-quarters, Liar’s Last Squirt made a bold move to the front and didn’t look back.  Crossing the wire with a commanding fourteen length lead, Liar’s Last Squirt grabbed her first lifetime win, pacing in 2:02.3.

Iowa harness racing resumes on Monday (7/3) for two days of racing at Humboldt, Iowa.  Post time for both days is at 12:30pm CST.
