Iowa Registered harness racing freshmen pacers and trotters competed Saturday (8/13), at What Cheer, on a full fourteen race card.

Chicken N Dice (Millionaire Cam) looked to keep a perfect record as he took to the track in race four, Iowa Registered Pacing Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings.

With Will Roland holding the lines, Chicken N Dice left promptly from the four-hole to find himself parked second to the quarter-pole.  Not willing to take a seat, Chicken N Dice rolled on up to take the lead, reaching the half in 1:00 flat.

In race five, Iowa Registered Two-Year-Old Trotting Fillies, She Pirate (Spectator K) and driver Will Roland hoped to return to her winning ways after an unfortunate break at the start at Humboldt (8/6).  Leaving from the two-hole, She Pirate quickly grabbed the lead as the race started.

Cutting the mile in :30.3, :59.4, and 1:30.2, She Pirate left the field in the dust, up by over ten lengths at the top of the stretch.  Crossing the finish line in 2:02 flat, She Pirate captured her sixth win of the season for owner Rian Sherman.

Iowa Registered Two-Year-Old Pacing Fillies competed in race six.  Duane Roland sent Roland N Rita (American Ideal) to the top from the three-hole.  Not looking back, Roland N Rita set the pace, with fractions in :30.2, 1:02.3 and 1:32.0.

As she rounded the turn for home, Roland N Rita was all alone as she crossed the wire with her fifth career win for owner Roger Roland, Roland N Rita gained a new life-time mark of 2:02.0.

Major’s Song (Major Athens) and driver Chad Svendsen was up next in race seven, competing in the second division of Iowa Registered Two-Year-Old Trotting Colts and Geldings.

Trotting up from the two-hole, Major’s Song led the field around the track.  Fractions in :32.0, 1:05.1 and 1:36.4, Major’s Song was still in control as they raced the final turn.

With a last quarter in :31.3, Major’s Song held off a hard-charging Freeman Freddy (Brandon Jenson) as they hit the line together.  In the photo finish, Major’s Song was declared victor, by a head.  Rick Huffman, Caroll Huffman, Keith Wilson and Larry Mather celebrated the colt’s second win of the season, trotting to a new life-time mark of 2:08.2.

Sophomore Iowa Registered trotters and pacers took over What Cheer on Sunday (8/14).  In the opener, Secretive Kate (Macduffie) and driver Jason Telfer charged to the front from the four-hole.  Cutting the mile in :32.1, 1:05.0 and 1:35.0, Secretive Kate was up by over two lengths at the top of the stretch.  Trotting home in 2:06 flat, Secretive Kate controlled the first division of Iowa Registered Three-Year-Old Trotting Fillies for co-owners John Saner and Jason Telfer.

Lil Char (In Over My Head) and driver James Gould drew the three-hole in race six, the second division of Iowa Registered Three-Year-Old Pacing Fillies.  With Huntress (Adam Hauser) to her outside, Gould knew that he needed to make a move to the front and not look back.

As Lil Char set the pace in :29.3, 1:00.3 and 1:31.0, Lil Char maintained a three-length lead on the field as she raced to the stretch.  With a battle down the lane, Lil Char and Huntress were neck and neck as they raced across the finish line.  Photo for win, Lil Char returned to the winner’s circle, pacing the mile in 2:01.3, for owners Stephanie Gould, James Gould and Justin Gould.

In race seven, the second division of Iowa Registered Three-Year-Old Trotting Colts and Geldings, No Mo Fashion (Cresent Fashion) and driver Mark Mintun trotted out to take the lead from the three-hole.  30.1, 1:02.0 and 1:32.3, No Mo Fashion strutted his stuff all the way down the lane.  Trotting in 2:03.2, No Mo Fashion not only got the win, but also a new life-time mark for owners Set The Pace Racing LLC and Joel McDanel.
